Setup And Challenges
Designing a room to emulate the work of another artist, while adding my own unique touch, was a challenging task for me. I had to ensure that my room looked identical enough to the original so that the viewer could understand the source of my inspiration. At the same time, I wanted to bring in my own creative input as a designer, without deviating too much from the original concept.
To achieve this, I had to be resourceful and make the most of what I had available. For example, I used curtains as bed sheets and as light blockers, since I didn't have white sheets. This turned out to be a versatile solution and proved to be a hero of sorts for this project. I also had to set up the camera myself, which was a challenge. I used stacks of books and furniture to set it up and capture the scene the way I envisioned it.
Despite the difficulties, I persevered and took at least a hundred pictures before selecting the best five. My goal was to shoot everything myself, just like Carrie Mae Weems does in her work, which made the process even more nerve-wracking.
In the end, all the effort and hard work paid off and I was able to create a room that emulated the work of my chosen artist while adding my own unique touch to it.
